About The Position

The Village Clerk Internship provides hands-on experience in government and an opportunity to learn about the role municipal clerks play in serving their communities. The intern will gain insight into local government operations and develop practical skills across multiple local government disciplines. This is a FAU-funded program for FAU juniors and seniors; only eligible FAU students may apply. The internship commences in Spring 2027.

The intern will assist with municipal meetings, records management, legislative affairs, code and charter codification, village projects, and documentation of internal and external processes using AI and other software. The role is based in a professional office setting, with occasional attendance at public meetings and community events. The schedule is flexible depending on academic commitments.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a degree program in Public Administration, Political Science, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field.
• Strong interest in local government and public service.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and able to maintain confidentiality.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with database systems.
• Ability to quickly learn third-party vendor software.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional setting.
• Must be an eligible FAU student; the program is for FAU juniors and seniors.

Responsibilities

• Attend regular Council meetings and workshops, including evening meetings.
• Assist with creating and publishing agendas and minutes.
• Assist with public records requests to support government transparency.
• Assist with records imaging, retention, and disposition for the village.
• Review legislative affairs and monitor state-level policy impacts on village operations.
• Review code and charter codification.
• Assist with projects such as Residents Academy, Florida City Government Week, Teacher Supply Drive, Pie-it-Forward, Christmas Toy Drive, and Hurricane Relief efforts.
• Use AI and software programs such as Scribe.ai to capture internal and external processes, including how-to videos and business processes.
