Video Processing Engineer

Apple•Cupertino, CA

About The Position

The Video Processing Engineer will investigate and develop hybrid video-processing techniques that balance image quality and power consumption. The work focuses on combining machine-learning approaches with traditional, lower-compute methods to improve video quality and/or battery life on Apple devices, including iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Potential applications include Under Display Camera enhancement, motion estimation for codecs, GGM and MCTF, and Face ID processing. The role translates video-processing architectures into specifications and bit-exact C models, and supports their implementation in software and/or hardware. It also involves cross-functional work with architects, Design teams, Verification (DV) teams, and software teams, including architecture validation and design verification against bit-exact models.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree.
  • Ability to program in Python, PyTorch, and/or C/C++.
  • Understanding of image, video, or signal-processing fundamentals.
  • Understanding of neural-network fundamentals.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or PhD degree, or 3+ years of experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new image/video-processing algorithms.
  • Experience developing neural-network-based image/video-processing algorithms.
  • Communication skills and ability to work across various groups.
  • Understanding of fixed-point representation and processing and/or ability to write bit-accurate software models.
  • Understanding of pipelining and pixel-processing architectures.
  • Knowledge of computer-architecture fundamentals.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and develop hybrid video-processing architectures.
  • Support chip architecture and software teams in mapping algorithms into well-defined architectures implementable in software and/or hardware.
  • Generate architecture test vectors for quality validation.
  • Write bit-exact C models of defined architectures.
  • Support Design and Verification teams in verifying designs against bit-exact C models.
  • Investigate hybrid video-processing techniques that can be translated into efficient SoC architectures.
  • Translate architectures into specifications and C models, working cross-functionally with other architects and Design and DV teams.
