About The Position

The Production Department at The New School’s College of Performing Arts is seeking a highly qualified Overhire Video Operator to join its team. Reporting to the Audio & Video Supervisor, the Overhire Video Operator is directly responsible for supporting the audio and video needs of academic related performances and partner events across the College of Performing Arts. The Overhire Video Operator is responsible for the overall quality and operation of the College of Performing Arts’ livestreams and video recordings. The Overhire Video Operator is also responsible for all associated infrastructure such as livestreaming computers, video switchers, and wireless video systems, as well as the operation and placement of cameras for livestreamed productions. This is an overhire position without regular or guaranteed weekly hours. Opportunities for work will be scheduled on an as-needed basis by the Audio & Video department. This position may be renewed pending institutional need and availability of funding.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience as a livestream engineer and/or 2 years of experience as a camera operator
  • Excellent knowledge of Sony and Blackmagic Cameras as well as PTZ cameras and their operation.
  • An artistic eye, Live-switching, skills and working knowledge of livestream hardware and software such as Vmix and ATEM Switchers.
  • Understanding of setting exposure and white balance for stage lighting
  • Familiar with CineEyes family of wireless video solutions.
  • Excellent knowledge and troubleshooting of video signal flow from the camera to the stream destination.
  • Ability to interpret event technical documents including signal flow diagrams. stage plots, run-of-show, and cue lists.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organization, and time-management skills
  • Ability to communicate with other departments and event coordinators to ensure a smooth show.
  • Punctuality, professionalism, and a positive collaborative attitude when working with Students, Faculty, Staff, and Team Members.

  • Television or special events experience a plus
  • An eye for creating dynamic shots
  • Self-motivated with ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs

Responsibilities

  • Understand and execute the technical aspects of each design, including interpreting video needs and all signal flow plans, I/O lists, and stage plots
  • Determine best locations for cameras depending on stage layout to create an engaging and dynamic experience for our audience members
  • Design, Direct, and switch livestream presentations using Vmix and Blackmagic Atem Video Switchers
  • Set Exposure and match color of each camera to create a unified look for multicam shoots
  • Manage recorded media for pre recorded events
  • Provide professional, courteous service to all parties
  • Fulfills the role of Livestream System Tech
  • Setup, operate, and strike equipment before, during, and after events.
  • Direct any technicians under their supervision in the completion of any required tasks, providing guidance when necessary to deliver the University’s standard.
