About The Position

The Production Department at The New School’s College of Performing Arts is seeking a highly qualified Overhire Production A/V Stagehand to join its team. This role supports the audio and video needs of academic-related performances and partner events across the College of Performing Arts. Responsibilities include stage moves, installation of audio and video equipment, and maintenance of gear and spaces, as directed by the Audio & Video Supervisor or their delegates. This is an overhire position, with work scheduled as needed by the department and may be renewed based on institutional need and funding availability.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience as a stage technician, for concerts, corporate events, or theater.
  • Excellent knowledge of proper gain structure and signal flow
  • Working knowledge of audio related software, such as Wireless Workbench 6, Pro Tools, Logic, Dante Virtual Soundcard, Dante Controller, etc.
  • Ability to interpret event technical documents including technical riders, signal flow diagrams, input lists, stage plots, run-of-show, and cue lists.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organization, and time-management skills
  • Ability to communicate with other departments and event coordinator, ensuring the event’s success.
  • Punctuality, professionalism, and a positive collaborative attitude when working with students, faculty, staff, and team members.
  • Experienced or able to learn and develop fluency in The New School’s suite of applications including Google Suite and WorkDay.

Nice To Haves

  • Corporate, Festival Sound, Broadcast and Special Events experience are all plusses
  • Working knowledge of digital consoles, specifically, Yamaha, Allen & Heath, Midas, and Behringer
  • Self-motivated with ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to safely climb ladders and scaffolding, operate Genies, and comfortable working at heights
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs

Responsibilities

  • Understand and execute the technical aspects of each design, including interpreting audio & video needs and all signal flow plans, I/O lists, and stage plots, or ground plans
  • Safely and securely run signal and power cables, implement sound designer ground plans in theatrical load ins.
  • Setup, place, patch, and test all microphones and speakers in conjunction with the A1 and A2.
  • Assist in executing any stage moves required by the show
  • Assist in maintenance of spaces and equipment as directed by the Audio & Video Supervisor
  • Provide professional, courteous service to all parties
  • Set up, operate, and strike equipment before, during, and after events, including audio consoles, playback support systems, and any audio related gear as required
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned
