About The Position

The Production Department at The New School’s College of Performing Arts is seeking a highly qualified Overhire Production A1 to join its team. Reporting to the Audio & Video Supervisor, the Overhire Production A1 is directly responsible for supporting the audio and video needs of academic related performances and partner events across the College of Performing Arts. The Overhire Production A1 is responsible for the overall quality of the live sound of concerts, panel discussions, festivals, and other special events at the College of Performing Arts. The A1 may also be responsible for the integrity of the livestream mix of a streamed performance. The Overhire Production A1 is also responsible for leading the audio crew when the Audio & Video Supervisor or Assistant Audio & Video Supervisor are deployed elsewhere. This is an overhire position without regular or guaranteed weekly hours. Opportunities for work will be scheduled on an as-needed basis by the Audio & Video department. This position may be renewed pending institutional need and availability of funding.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience as a live sound engineer for concerts, corporate events or theatrical productions
  • Live-mixing skills and working knowledge of digital consoles, specifically, Yamaha, Allen & Heath, Midas, and Behringer
  • Excellent knowledge of proper gain structure and signal flow
  • Working knowledge of audio related software, such as Qlab 4&5, Wireless Workbench 7, Pro Tools, Logic. Dante Virtual Soundcard, Dante Controller, etc.
  • Ability to interpret event technical documents including technical riders, signal flow diagrams, input lists, stage plots, run-of-show, and cue lists.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organization, and time-management skills
  • Ability to communicate with other departments and event coordinator to ensure a smooth show.
  • Punctuality, professionalism, and a positive collaborative attitude when working with Students, Faculty, Staff, and Team Members.
  • Experienced or able to learn and develop fluency in The New School’s suite of applications including Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and WorkDay.
  • Ability to adhere to university COVID-19 policy and requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Corporate, Special Events, Festival Sound, Line by Line Musical Mixing, and Broadcast experience are all plusses
  • Self-motivated with ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to safely climb ladders and scaffolding, operate Genies, and comfortable working at heights
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs

Responsibilities

  • Mix FOH, Monitors or Streaming Audio Feeds, occasionally at the same time on the same console
  • Provide professional, courteous service to all parties
  • Responsible for setup, operation, and strike of equipment before, during, and after events, including operating all audio consoles, playback support systems, and any audio related gear as required
  • Direct any audio team members under their supervision in the completion of any required tasks, providing guidance when necessary to deliver the University’s standard.
