About The Position

The Victim Offender Education Group (VOEG) Facilitator will report directly to the Executive Director to facilitate, guide and support a cohort of participants at the San Francisco Juvenile Justice Center as they work through the exercises of the VOEG curriculum. We are looking for someone that has a positive attitude and genuinely enjoys facilitating a diverse group of people. You will support the Five Keys mission by creating a work environment of mutual respect and fairness while encouraging creative and critical thinking through an equity lens. In addition, you will contribute to our appreciation of diversity and foster a climate of multicultural understanding. About Insight Prison Project Insight Prison Project (IPP) is a division of Five Keys Schools and Programs dedicated to creating and providing opportunities that foster transformation – in the lives of people impacted by crime – by offering restorative justice based and trauma-healing programs that are designed and proven to facilitate insight, accountability, compassion, empathy, and healing.

Requirements

  • Ability to structure conversations and apply appropriate group facilitation techniques to keep discussions effective
  • Fluency with the Victim Offender Education Group (VOEG) Curriculum
  • Extreme comfort working with a diverse workforce and a commitment to creating an inclusive and equitable work environment
  • Strong listening skills, patient, approachable and an excellent communicator
  • Eagerness to learn new things and able to adapt to constantly changing circumstances
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office, Gmail and Google Drives/Docs and professional communication
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to interact with those we serve through a trauma informed approach and maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive information
  • Ability to work independently is critically important
  • Successful completion of the Insight Prison Project's Victim Offender Education Group Facilitator Training required
  • Must wear provided PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and adhere to all safety guidelines and requirements, when needed
  • Submitting proof of clear TB results. Results dated within 60 days prior to hire date are acceptable

Nice To Haves

  • Group facilitation experience highly encouraged
  • IPP trained preferred
  • Supervisory or coaching experience preferred
  • Criminal Justice experience; lived or direct working experience with carceral populations/settings
  • Restorative Justice experience

Responsibilities

  • Design and plan the facilitating agenda. This includes; timekeeping, creating a clear objective, guidelines and instructions, and having resources available if needed
  • Foster participation and encourage participants to come up with ideas, thoughts and perspectives that they feel add value
  • Facilitate one, 2-hour VOEG circle session each week; prepare with a co-facilitator for 30 minutes for each session; debrief after each session for 30 minutes with a co-facilitator
  • Facilitate participants as they process personal work as it relates to harm, trauma and accountability
  • Ensure that coverage is provided for all scheduled classes. If a facilitator is unable to cover a class, the VOEG Facilitator will work with IPP’s Executive Director to make every effort to arrange for an alternate facilitator in advance of the date requested or provide notice of need to postpone a session
  • Provide routine communication (phone, email or written) with IPP’s Executive Director. Respond to any written, electronic, or telephonic communication from IPP within 3 business days. The VOEG Facilitator will work closely with the Executive Director to track/monitor group outcomes
  • Other duties as assigned
