About The Position

Langley Federal Credit Union is hiring a full-time Vice President, Technology Strategy & Architecture to work in person at its City Center Headquarters in Newport News, Virginia. The role defines the technology strategy and target-state architecture to align Langley’s technology portfolio and spending with its growth to $10 billion in assets. It diagnoses capability gaps, redundant systems, and vendor overlap, and directs technology-stack rationalization and simplification. The position establishes architecture principles, standards, and evaluation criteria for projects, platforms, and investment decisions, and leads the Technology Strategy and Architecture team while ensuring governance and examination readiness. The successful candidate will develop and maintain enterprise architecture practices and technology standards across IT and business-unit-managed systems; guide platform selection, integration, and build-versus-buy decisions; and ensure architecture choices align with the target state. The role shares accountability with Data Solutions leadership for enterprise and AI data warehouse and pipeline architecture standards, and coordinates with Technology Infrastructure on aligned infrastructure design. It also leads portfolio analysis, contributes to prioritization and procurement decisions, maintains architecture documentation, and develops architecture capability across delivery teams. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and at least 10 years of progressive technology experience. This includes at least five years in enterprise architecture, technology strategy, or solution architecture leadership, as well as experience establishing architecture practices and leading technology rationalization or vendor simplification. A master’s degree is preferred. The targeted salary range is $160,000–$220,000.

  • Ten or more years of progressive technology experience.
  • Five or more years in enterprise architecture, technology strategy, or solution architecture leadership.
  • Experience establishing enterprise architecture practices, technology standards, or architecture review processes in a complex organization.
  • Experience leading technology rationalization, system consolidation, or vendor portfolio simplification efforts.
  • Experience architecting in a vendor-platform environment, including platform selection, integration patterns, and configuration-over-customization trade-offs.
  • Ability to lead and develop a team, including workforce planning, skill development, and performance management.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience in environments built primarily on commercial platforms rather than custom development.
  • Experience in financial services, banking, or credit union environments.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and examination expectations for technology governance.

Responsibilities

  • Own and drive rationalization of Langley’s technology stack, sequencing consolidation and sunset efforts and presenting decisions to the CIO for approval.
  • Develop Langley’s technology strategy and target-state architecture to support growth to $10 billion in assets, and advise the CIO on emerging technologies, platform direction, and vendor market shifts.
  • Own enterprise architecture principles and technology standards for application patterns, integration, security, change management, and configuration over customization.
  • Extend enterprise standards to technology systems selected or managed by business units outside IT, and ensure platform teams design within those standards.
  • Establish evaluation criteria and review processes for technology projects, systems, and investments, including platform selection and build-versus-buy decisions.
  • Keep architecture decisions consistent with the target-state architecture, delegate decisions within established standards to delivery leaders, and identify choices that add or retire technical debt.
  • Co-own enterprise data architecture standards with Data Solutions leadership, with equal accountability for enterprise and AI data warehouses and their data pipelines.
  • Coordinate with Technology Infrastructure to align infrastructure design with enterprise standards.
  • Lead portfolio analysis to diagnose capability gaps, system and vendor overlap, lifecycle status, and technology risk for investment and prioritization decisions.
  • Represent architecture in Program Management’s portfolio prioritization and provide standards input to vendor evaluations and technology procurement.
  • Maintain enterprise architecture documentation, current-state and target-state views, and the standards library.
  • Ensure governance and examination readiness through defensible documentation of architecture decisions, standards compliance, and rationalization progress.
  • Lead and develop the Technology Strategy and Architecture team, including workforce planning, skill development, and performance management.
  • Build architecture competency across delivery teams through published standards and guidance.
  • Partner with business leaders to align architecture decisions with business strategy and member-experience priorities.
  • Demonstrate Langley’s Keys to Success: service orientation, accountability and inclusion, adaptability and innovation, collaboration and transparency, and continuous learning.
