About The Position

Hughes Marino is seeking a Vice President of Project Management to join its Columbus team and support a confidential, high-growth defense technology client. The role serves as the firm’s owner’s representative and trusted extension of the client’s internal team, advocating exclusively for the client throughout construction projects. It is not a general contractor or developer position. The Vice President will oversee multiple concurrent commercial and specialty construction projects from programming and design through construction completion and closeout. This high-visibility role has direct exposure to client executives and accountability for project outcomes, budgets, schedules, and client-directed milestones. The position also assembles and leads project teams, mentors up to two internal project managers or project engineers, coordinates with brokerage colleagues on construction-related lease provisions, and collaborates with client stakeholders as requirements evolve. Regular travel to project sites across markets is required. Local candidates in Columbus and Central Ohio only.

Requirements

  • 12 or more years of construction project management experience, including significant experience in a senior owner’s representative, third-party construction management, or client-side leadership role.
  • Candidates from general contractor or subcontractor backgrounds must demonstrate a genuine shift to owner-side advocacy and perspective.
  • Proven ability to manage and hold external vendors and design teams accountable while leading junior internal staff.
  • High proficiency in Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Project.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort presenting to and advising C-suite stakeholders.
  • Self-directed, deadline-driven, and adaptable across multiple active projects in a fast-moving environment.

  • Mentor and manage up to two internal Hughes Marino project managers or project engineers.
  • Review and negotiate change orders; oversee invoicing, tenant improvement allowance reimbursement, and project closeout from the owner’s perspective.
