Vice President of Product, Advisor Experience

Mercer Advisors•Denver, CO

About The Position

Mercer Advisors is seeking a product leader to own the advisor experience end to end. The role defines what a great day looks like for an advisor and translates that vision into roadmaps, partnerships, and disciplined delivery. Aspen is the core platform for advisor work, and the role is accountable for reducing friction, improving productivity and telemetry, and giving advisors more time to spend with clients. The position owns two roadmaps: a joint roadmap with Avantos, Mercer Advisors’ Aspen platform partner, and a Mercer Advisors-specific roadmap that supports the firm’s differentiated needs. The role reports to the Chief Platform Officer and works closely with a named business lead from problem definition through launch. It leads a cross-functional team and is accountable for advisor outcomes, adoption, and learning from results. The role is scheduled during standard business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., though early or late hours may occasionally be needed for business tasks and deadlines. Work may be performed in a professional office or a dedicated, interruption-free home office. Basic technology will be provided. The job routinely involves sitting and standing, with no heavy lifting over 10 pounds.

Requirements

  • 12 or more years of product management experience and 5 or more years leading product teams; the posting notes that a senior director candidate may have 8 or more years of product management experience and 3 or more years of leadership experience.
  • Experience ideally includes a workflow-heavy product for internal or professional users.
  • Track record managing strategic vendor or platform partnerships and shaping joint roadmaps.
  • Empathy for operators and ability to observe advisors at work and identify underlying problems.
  • Strong command of data, including setting and baselining metrics and using them to make decisions.
  • Comfort with AI-enabled product work, including governance, adoption, and measuring productivity gains.
  • Ability to build and run intake and prioritization processes, defend a roadmap, and explain decisions for declining requests.
  • Strong cross-functional relationship-building skills and ability to earn trust without relying on authority.
  • Proactive communication, including candidly raising problems and recommending a path forward.
  • Willingness to disagree and commit to decisions.
  • Availability during standard business hours Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with occasional early or late hours to meet business needs and deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Salesforce, Orion, or Avantos-style workflow platforms.
  • Experience in an RIA, at a custodian, or with an advisor-facing product at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Define the advisor experience vision and translate it into a product roadmap covering advisor routines and huddles, dashboards, accumulation and share of wallet, action plans, team configuration and staffing, and Platform NPS.
  • Manage structured intake and prioritization, size work using T-shirt sizing, make trade-offs visible, and clearly communicate decisions to business stakeholders.
  • Own Mercer Advisors’ relationship with Avantos, represent the firm in roadmap discussions, hold the vendor accountable, and run a joint roadmap with shared priorities, dependencies, and regular steering committees.
  • Determine with the team what to build, buy, or partner on, and identify where Avantos’ product direction supports the firm or requires advocacy.
  • Build the Mercer Advisors-specific Aspen roadmap, including AI-enabled workflows, permissions and field-level security, and advisor performance and compensation views.
  • Reduce clicks and handoffs on routine advisor tasks, beginning with the highest-volume actions.
  • Coordinate across Aspen, Client Portal, Relationship Expansion, and Investment Platform teams to create a consistent advisor experience across Aspen, Salesforce, Orion, and Box.
  • Define and measure Advisor NPS and explain the factors that affect it.
  • Lead measurement of client and advisor outcomes, including client touchpoints, referrals, action plan coverage, advisor capacity and productivity, and team retention; establish baselines within 90 days and make results available on a dashboard.
  • Require an impact hypothesis before each build and a measurement plan before each launch; follow through on adoption and review results to identify lessons.
  • Work directly with advisors, relationship managers, and clients, including attending meetings where the work takes place.
  • Partner closely with Client Team to prioritize the roadmap and deliver high-value impact.
  • Lead a cross-functional team of product managers, designers, engineers, data, BI, and enablement professionals, with shared accountability for outcomes and craft.
  • Coach product managers to shape strategy, and foster a culture of candor, follow-through, and learning from mistakes.
