About The Position

Workiva is seeking a strategic, high-impact, and business-minded communications leader to shape and scale how the company tells its story to key audiences. Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, this role will lead Workiva’s global communications function, encompassing external communications, public relations, product and crisis communications, public affairs, and executive communications. The leader will be responsible for building a modern communications engine to strengthen Workiva’s reputation, elevate executive visibility, and advance its position as a trusted global technology company. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in B2B SaaS, global communications, and high-growth public company environments, with a proven ability to translate complex business, technology, regulatory, and market themes into clear, action-inspiring narratives. This is a highly cross-functional role requiring close collaboration with Marketing, Brand, People & Culture, Legal, Investor Relations, Product, Sales, Customer Experience, and the executive leadership team. The VP will manage a team of communications professionals and external agency partners to execute proactive, integrated, and measurable communications programs.

Requirements

  • Minimum 15+ years of progressive communications experience, including senior leadership experience in B2B SaaS, enterprise technology, or a similarly complex global business.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience establishing communications KPIs that tie public relations, public affairs, and executive positioning directly to corporate strategy and ROI.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Workiva’s Global Communications Strategy, including developing and executing an integrated global strategy that translates company strategy, AI innovation, product value, regulatory trends, and customer momentum into compelling narratives.
  • Manage Executive & Internal Comms, serving as a trusted advisor to the CEO and leadership team, building executive thought leadership platforms, handling media prep, speechwriting, and executive social strategy, and partnering with Internal Comms so employees hear major news first.
  • Establish Operating Rhythms & Governance, including communications priorities, agency governance models, and measurable KPIs that align external storytelling with business outcomes.
  • Own External Communications, Public Relations, and Reputation, leading external communications, corporate announcements, media relations, awards, and thought leadership, and overseeing press releases, briefing materials, and Q&A assets.
  • Serve as Spokesperson & Brand Positioning, acting as a senior company spokesperson when appropriate and partnering with Brand, Product Marketing, Customer Marketing, and CPX to amplify platform value and customer impact.
  • Lead Crisis Communications & Issues Readiness, owning crisis strategy in partnership with Legal, Security, People & Culture, IR, and CPX, and building playbooks, escalation paths, and scenario plans for high-pressure events.
  • Build Global Thought Leadership and Stakeholder Communications, leading public affairs and strategic communications strategies to build Workiva’s global reputation and connecting the brand to high-impact global forums and core topics like trust, sustainability, and responsible innovation.
  • Elevate Executive & Stakeholder Engagement by defining and executing high-visibility positioning for C-suite leaders, identifying strategic convenings, partnerships, and platform opportunities to expand external influence.
  • Align Partnerships & Cross-Functional Messaging by integrating public and private partnerships into Workiva’s corporate narrative, ensuring cohesive messaging and brand alignment.
  • Lead Executive Communications and Executive Social, advising executive leadership to build differentiated thought leadership platforms, developing C-suite content (speeches, keynotes, social content), and prepping leaders for key moments.
  • Lead Crisis Communications and Issues Readiness, driving Workiva’s global crisis response strategy, providing guidance to C-suite leaders, building preparedness infrastructure (playbooks, escalation paths), and coordinating cross-functional alignment.
  • Build and Lead a High-Performing Team, directing a team of 3-5 communications professionals plus external agencies, fostering a high-performance culture, optimizing team operations, and managing agency performance.

  • Salary range in the US: $266,000.00 - $345,700.00
