About The Position

We are seeking a collaborative leader with business acumen, an experienced strategist in both b2c and b2b environments, and someone eager to build a department from the ground up. The Vice President of Business Intelligence will play a critical role in accelerating growth for a storied WNBA franchise. Reporting to and partnering closely with the COO, this leader will build the organization’s business intelligence function from the ground up—establishing the systems, infrastructure, analytical frameworks, KPIs, and reporting needed to surface actionable insights, inform strategic decision-making across the business, and ultimately, drive revenue. The work will require both technical skills and the ability to be a great teammate who works with a wide range of stakeholders.

Requirements

  • B.A degree in finance, marketing, economics, math, statistics, data science or similar quantitative discipline.
  • 7-10+ years of business strategy and analytics experience
  • 2+ years experience managing people
  • Expertise in complex modeling, statistical forecasting, and segmentation methodologies, with the ability to apply them to revenue, ticketing, and fan behavior data.
  • Proven experience architecting and overseeing enterprise data warehouse environments (Snowflake or similar), and building executive-facing dashboards and visualizations.
  • A track record of driving business impact through influence and collaboration with revenue departments in a multi-stakeholder, fast-growing and dynamic environment.
  • Technologically fluent across many software platforms and operating systems.
  • Advanced SQL experience required.
  • Experience building and maintaining dashboards and recurring business reports.
  • Working knowledge of Python or R for analysis, automation, or modeling.
  • Experience with data across CRM, ticketing, marketing, finance, and sponsorship systems.
  • Strong understanding of data quality, metric definitions, documentation, and governance.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Dynamics, and Business Central.
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled analytics tools and the ability to identify practical opportunities to improve reporting, automation, and self-service analytics.
  • Ability to evaluate AI-generated insights responsibly, including validating outputs, protecting data privacy, and ensuring business definitions are accurate and consistent.

Nice To Haves

  • Post graduate degree preferred.
  • Snowflake experience is strongly preferred.
  • Tableau experience preferred.
  • Experience with dbt or similar data transformation tools preferred.
  • Experience working in or with professional sports teams and/or leagues preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, maintain, and evolve how the organization collects, manages, and delivers data & insights that serves key stakeholder groups (executive leadership, ticketing, corporate partnerships, and marketing).
  • Manage, via dotted line, ticket operations, corporate partnerships analyst, and financial planning analyst to ensure business intelligence needs are met for our priority revenue lines.
  • Partner with COO on data team growth strategy, including budget priorities and staffing, as the business grows.
  • Develop and implement BI systems & processes that serve business needs, with a priority focus on establishing structure and supporting efforts that drive revenue.
  • Strategize with and serve revenue department leads.
  • Lead development and deployment of data collection and analytics tools and data science approaches to analyze large data sets and uncover trends, patterns, and insights that deliver business value.
  • Perform end to end reporting & analytics, including executive level reporting, revenue line reporting, league reporting in collaboration with finance team, and ad-hoc analysis requests.
  • Maintain and expand automated foundational business reporting dashboards in Tableau to support leadership team decision making.
  • Lead organizational data integrity, cleanliness, security, privacy, and governance through collaboration across the company.
  • Leverage league trends and resources to inform market-specific actions.
  • Assess available database growth opportunities to support business objectives.
  • Lead and support the organization in developing a data informed approach to decision making.
  • Proactively identify how Storm data and technology can be leveraged to drive decision making and business results.
  • Collaborate with HR on training and skill development for staff.
  • Act as the main point of contact for Business Intelligence technology, tools, and partners including but not limited to KAGR, Dynamics, Leap, Wolfcycle, Apollo.io, and more. Define scope and associated costs for future projects with these and potential new partners. Collaborate on vendor management with departmental experts on tools specific to revenue lines (e.g. Trak, Vozzi, Marketo, Business Central, Ticketmaster)
  • Monitor data science trends, emerging tools and technologies, including artificial intelligence, and relentlessly pursue opportunities for improvements, driving efficiency, and incorporating automation.
  • Partner with the COO and executive leadership on the GenAI strategy for the organization.
  • Support operations department teammates as needed, attend department and company meetings.
