The Segment Leader has overall responsibility for the civic and governmental market segment and provides strategic direction, leadership and support to account management teams serving public-sector clients. The Segment Leader participates in the identification, development and execution of segment initiatives and client deliverables to ensure a competitive edge and support the business overall. The role brings a strong understanding of the distinct operating, procurement, compliance, budgeting and collaborator requirements of municipalities and government entities.

Requirements

Solid understanding in all areas of benefits brokerage and consulting, including benefits administration, compliance, benefits financing, industry trends, and carrier products and services.
Ability to translate public-sector requirements and market developments into practical client strategies, service models and team priorities.
Ability to work independently and anticipate business, client and team needs.
Effective time management and decision-making skills.
Diligent follow-up skills.
Ability to express ideas clearly in both written and oral communications, including with elected officials, boards, administrators and other public-sector collaborators, as applicable.
BA/BS preferred with more than 10 years of proven experience.
Experience leading account management for municipal, government or other public-sector clients strongly preferred.
Life, Accident and Health Insurance License required.

Responsibilities

Collaborates with the Senior Leadership team to assess staffing needs, develop client deliverables and make decisions that best serve the Municipal and Government segment.
Works with the Senior Leadership team to drive business results, including opportunities to increase revenue, build operational efficiencies and improve margin within the public-sector market.
Ensures consistency across teams serving municipal and government clients with regard to accuracy, execution, timely delivery of scopes and conformity to NFP standards.
Proactively leads account teams that deliver services in accordance with client scopes, public-sector requirements and established service expectations to maintain an excellent client experience and competitive position.
Develops and manages relationships with key client stakeholders, carrier representatives and other partners supporting municipal and government entities.
Participates in strategic client meetings, including stewardship and strategy discussions, and serves as an executive sponsor where appropriate across the segment.
Monitors municipal and government market developments, including procurement practices, budget cycles, regulatory and compliance considerations, and translates relevant developments into client and team strategies.
Provides strategic mentorship for requests for proposals, renewals, implementations and other public-sector client deliverables, as appropriate.
Develops a team, including coaching and mentoring team members, appraising performance and addressing potential problems.
Interviews candidates and assists in the hiring and onboarding process, as appropriate. Participates in training and assists in assessing employees for promotions.
Performs other duties as assigned and typically exercises independent judgment on most matters; viewed as an authority in the area of responsibility.
