About The Position

Northeast Animal Hospital is looking for a compassionate, organized, and highly engaged Veterinary Technician to join our team. Working under the guidance of our veterinarians and operations team, you’ll play an essential role in helping our doctors provide efficient, high-quality medicine. From anesthesia and surgery to laboratory diagnostics, radiology, dentistry, pharmacy, client education, and patient nursing care, this is a hands-on position with opportunities to use and strengthen a broad range of veterinary skills. We believe Veterinary Technicians should be supported as they continue developing professionally. If you show an interest in areas such as radiology, dentistry, anesthesia, or another aspect of veterinary medicine, continuing education and additional training are encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare exam rooms, treatment areas, medications, equipment, and supplies for appointments and procedures
  • Safely and compassionately handle and restrain patients during examinations, treatments, and procedures
  • Assist veterinarians with examinations, treatments, surgical procedures, and patient care
  • Prepare patients for surgery, assist with anesthesia, monitor patients throughout procedures, and provide post-operative support and recovery care
  • Perform safety checks on anesthesia equipment and maintain surgical supplies and instruments
  • Clean, pack, sterilize, and autoclave surgical instruments and materials
  • Administer injections, medications, fluids, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian
  • Perform venipuncture and collect diagnostic samples
  • Perform in-house laboratory testing, including fecal testing, urinalysis, skin scrapings, heartworm testing, FeLV/FIV testing, glucose testing, and other diagnostics
  • Prepare samples and documentation for outside laboratories and maintain accurate laboratory records
  • Obtain and process radiographs while following established safety procedures
  • Perform dental cleanings, ear care, nail trims, routine suture removal, and other technician procedures as directed
  • Monitor patient vital signs, treatments, medications, intake, output, and overall condition
  • Provide attentive nursing care to hospitalized and post-operative patients
  • Admit and discharge patients and provide clear client education regarding medications, treatments, home care, and follow-up instructions
  • Complete client callbacks and accurately document communications in the medical record
  • Assist with appointments by obtaining patient histories, weights, temperatures, preventive-care information, and diagnostic samples
  • Educate clients regarding preventive care, vaccines, heartworm prevention, flea control, nutrition, medications, and hospital recommendations
  • Accurately dispense prescription medications and maintain controlled drug logs
  • Maintain accurate patient records, treatment documentation, and charges
  • Monitor and maintain inventory, rotate stock, check expiration dates, and notify management when supplies need to be ordered
  • Support front-desk and Pet Care Coordinator responsibilities when needed
  • Maintain clean, stocked, organized exam rooms, treatment areas, laboratory spaces, and medical equipment
  • Follow OSHA, radiology, biohazard, controlled-drug, and hospital safety protocols
