About The Position

Onion River Animal Hospital’s program provides practical experience to students currently enrolled in an accredited Veterinary Technician school. It is designed to contribute to students’ practice-readiness and help prepare them to deliver better care after graduation. Participants work alongside veterinarians, technicians, and support staff and gain hands-on experience across a range of clinical duties, including routine and emergency veterinary care. The program offers mentorship, a collaborative learning environment, and potential future employment opportunities.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a Veterinary Technician program at an accredited school.
• Strong passion for animal care and a desire to learn.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Basic knowledge of animal handling and medical terminology is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist with examinations, diagnostics, and treatments.
• Administer medications and vaccinations.
• Monitor anesthesia during surgeries.
• Conduct laboratory tests, including bloodwork and urinalysis.
• Take radiographs (X-rays).
• Care for hospitalized animals.
• Educate pet owners on preventive care.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Participate enthusiastically and effectively in patient care.
