About The Position

The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine of Rowan University is seeking Veterinary Assistants and Veterinary Technicians to join its new veterinary program and teaching hospital. These roles will serve within the ambulatory Shelter Medicine and Community Engagement (SMCE) service. The SMCE includes a mobile RV-style clinic based at the veterinary teaching hospital and a satellite spay/neuter clinic in Clayton, NJ. The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine is a new, innovative teaching hospital for small animals, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and designed to accommodate multiple specialty departments. The selected candidates will support clinical services in the SMCE section, serving patients in animal shelters and underserved communities throughout southern NJ while educating students. Key aspects of the role include providing comprehensive and quality care to clients and patients, demonstrating a commitment to a collaborative work culture, and problem-solving in a fast-growing and changing environment with a growth mindset.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Reliable personal mode of transportation
  • Credentialed (evidence of passing the VTNE) for Veterinary Technicians
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience for Veterinary Technician Level 1 and 2
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical experience for Veterinary Technician Level 3
  • Minimum 1-year of clinical experience for Veterinary Technician Level 4
  • Associate degree or higher for Veterinary Assistants
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience for Veterinary Assistant Level 1
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical experience for Veterinary Assistant Level 2
  • Legally authorized to work in the US

Nice To Haves

  • Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) certification eligible or achieved, or equivalent specialty-level expertise
  • Willing to work flexible hours (days, swing) and weekends as needed in variable locations.
  • Previous experience working in a teaching environment.
  • Previous experience working in a shelter medicine practice, access to care or HQHVSN surgical setting.
  • Adaptable to a fast-growing and developing workplace.
  • Experience or comfort driving an RV or oversized vehicle.
  • Excellent understanding of medical terminology, medications, calculations, and common surgical procedures.
  • Excellence and interest in further developing interpersonal skills in relation to co-workers, clinicians, students, staff, and clients.
