About The Position

At Pima Medical Institute's Aurora campus, the Veterinary Technician Program Director (DVM) role is a leadership position focused on shaping the future of veterinary medicine. The Director will oversee a thriving veterinary nursing program, mentor faculty, and guide students from beginners to skilled professionals. Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an AVMA-accredited College of Veterinary Medicine recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or CHEA.
  • Current DVM license in good standing as required by local, state, or federal laws to work in the veterinary field in Texas.
  • Minimum 3 years of practical experience in the veterinary field and/or 3 years of teaching experience in the veterinary field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other computer applications.

  • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all educational activities of the Veterinary Nursing Program.
  • Develop and maintain a functional curriculum aligned with AVMA standards.
  • Evaluate course content, review new texts, and collaborate with administration on program design and implementation.
  • Coordinate educational workshops and in-services for didactic and clinical faculty.
  • Maintain all AVMA records, prepare annual reports, and lead self-study reports for accreditation.
  • Plan and conduct department staff meetings and semiannual Advisory Board meetings.
  • Monitor department expenditures and maintain budget compliance; order supplies and maintain equipment as needed.
  • Monitor student success rates and implement plans to reduce withdrawals; maintain an 80% student success rate for all classes taught.
  • Evaluate student performance and make necessary provisions to meet individual learning needs.
  • Maintain student grades per established policies; prepare final grades at the end of each sequence.
  • Perform functions of a Veterinary Nursing instructor; monitor lab competencies and confirm skill levels on standardized checklists.
  • Supervise veterinary nursing staff and faculty; evaluate performance and prepare teaching assignments.
  • Establish and implement veterinary nursing department goals.
  • Visit clinical sites regularly to evaluate student clinical performance and progress; coordinate with site supervisors to ensure effective clinical education.
