About The Position

Red Bank Veterinary Hospital is seeking an Overnight Inpatient Technician to join their team in a new, state-of-the-art 100,000+ sq. ft. specialty and emergency care hospital. The ideal candidate is personable, self-motivated, and a strong communicator with excellent organizational skills. This role involves assisting with daily tasks and collaborating across all hospital departments to provide care for hospitalized patients deemed stable, under the direction of a supervising veterinarian. The technician will assess patients, facilitate treatments, and communicate effectively with veterinarians regarding patient concerns.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience working as a Veterinary Technician in a veterinary hospital.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computers, electronic medical records, and data entry.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced emergency and critical care environment.
  • Fluent English skills (speaking and reading) required.

Nice To Haves

  • LVT, CVT, or RVT credential preferred.
  • Previous experience working in an emergency or specialty veterinary hospital preferred.
  • RECOVER CPR certification a plus.
  • Experience managing critically ill and hospitalized patients preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care for hospitalized patients that are deemed stable according to the veterinarian’s evaluation and RBVH’s defined levels of hospitalization.
  • Assess patients and facilitate treatments under the direction of the supervising veterinarian.
  • Communicate effectively with the supervising veterinarian and address concerns with the patients as they arise.
  • Work with all doctors, technicians, and assistants to perform diagnostics and execute treatment plans for the hospitalized patient.
  • Basic husbandry and care for domestic and exotic patients.
  • Monitor patient status: vitals, mentation, pain score.
  • Perform nursing procedures: phlebotomy, IVC/IVF therapy, cystocentesis, urinary catheter care, medication administration (oral, topical, injectable), restraint, in- and out-patient care, abdominocentesis/thoracocentesis/pericardiocentesis, oxygen cage operation, transfusion therapy, PICC line care, recumbent patient care, feeding and sampling line care.
  • Triage, sedation/anesthesia monitoring, recognize CPA & initiate CPR.
  • Maintain knowledge of disease processes and disinfection protocols.
  • Utilize basic anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology knowledge (Cubex use, common medications).
  • Perform medical math, lab skills (basic bloodwork, lab submissions), radiograph positioning, and use medical terminology.
  • Maintain accurate record keeping.
  • Operate equipment, stocking and cleaning, and aftercare.
  • Adhere to hospital policies.
