About The Position

Red Bank Veterinary Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Technician to advance emergency and critical care skills in a cutting-edge specialty environment. This role is at a new, 100,000+ sq. ft. state-of-the-art hospital designed for advanced specialty and emergency care, equipped with MRI, CT, PET scanning, 12 surgical suites, a dedicated ER, and expanded training spaces. RBVH combines innovative medicine with compassionate care for pets, clients, and team members.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience working as a Veterinary Technician in a veterinary hospital.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computers, electronic medical records, and data entry.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced emergency and critical care environment.
  • Fluent English skills (speaking and reading) required.

Nice To Haves

  • LVT, CVT, or RVT credential preferred
  • Previous experience working in an emergency or specialty veterinary hospital preferred
  • Prior experience working with avian/exotics/ zoo patients preferred

Responsibilities

  • Ability to work with multiple species, including, but not limited to: rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, other rodents, birds (psittacines, passerines, waterfowl, chicken), bearded dragons, leopard geckos, snakes, turtles, tortoises.
  • Understanding of different species anatomy and physiology
  • Prepare exam rooms, gather tools, assist with exams and procedures, obtain patient histories and vitals, triage emergencies, administer vaccines, assist with surgical prep/cleanup, and educate clients on diet and husbandry.
  • Perform venipuncture on multiple species, collect and prepare diagnostic samples (cytology, fecals, trichograms), run in-house lab tests, process lab forms, perform basic cytology evaluations, and submit necropsy requests.
  • Create and explain treatment estimates, call in prescriptions, manage follow-up care, confirm appointments and surgeries, participate in rounds, maintain client communication, and respond to departmental emails.
  • Provide basic grooming, assist with medical procedures and euthanasia, place and maintain IV/IO catheters, calculate and administer medications, set up fluid therapy, assist with feeding, (including assisted feedings for small mammals and gavage feeding in birds/reptiles), perform CPR/CPCR, monitor anesthesia, and handle aftercare.
  • Ability to monitor or learn anesthesia in multiple species is required. (ASA I-V)
  • Record patient care, CPCR events, technician notes, and enter charges into Cornerstone accurately and on time.
  • Use appropriate veterinary terminology, maintain a positive and adaptable attitude, work as part of a collaborative team, assist in training other staff members across departments, self-starter, and highly motivated.
