About The Position

South Asheville Veterinary Emergency & Specialty (SAVES) is seeking a full-time Veterinary Technician Assistant Supervisor & Training Coordinator to support its Specialty team in Asheville, North Carolina. This leadership role is suited to an experienced Registered Veterinary Technician interested in mentorship, training, and developing veterinary technicians’ clinical skills in a fast-paced specialty animal hospital. The role supports Specialty Services operations and coordinates onboarding, hands-on training, coaching, and ongoing development for Veterinary Technicians and veterinary support team members. It also assists hospital leadership with department operations, staffing coordination, workflow, team collaboration, and implementation of medical protocols and departmental initiatives. SAVES has provided emergency and specialty veterinary care since 2009. Its recently expanded hospital supports advanced medicine alongside specialists and emergency clinicians, and the organization emphasizes compassion, collaboration, clinical excellence, mentorship, continuing education, and professional growth. The position is full-time, Monday through Friday, with five eight-hour shifts and a schedule that may be adjusted according to training needs and department priorities.

Requirements

Registered Veterinary Technician credential (RVT, CVT, or LVT) required.
Strong interest and demonstrated ability in coaching and developing veterinary team members.
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to adapt the schedule based on training needs and department priorities.
Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced Specialty Services environment.
Positive, collaborative, and solution-oriented approach.
Fluent English speaking and reading skills required.

Nice To Haves

A minimum of two years of experience in emergency, specialty, or critical care veterinary medicine is preferred.
Previous leadership, mentoring, training, or lead Veterinary Technician experience is preferred.
Experience with EzyVet and SmartFlow is preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office is preferred.
Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) credential is preferred; additional compensation is available for VTS candidates.
Bilingual or multilingual communication skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and support onboarding programs for new Specialty Services Technicians and veterinary team members.
Develop, organize, and deliver hands-on training to advance Veterinary Technician skills and clinical competency.
Mentor Veterinary Technicians as they progress through training and development plans.
Partner with hospital leadership to identify learning opportunities and create individualized development plans.
Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and support for professional growth and confidence.
Assist with competency assessments, skill evaluations, and documentation of training progress.
Ensure team members are trained on hospital protocols, workflows, equipment, and patient care standards.
Promote continuous learning, teamwork, and clinical excellence.
Assist hospital leadership with daily department operations, workflow, and team support.
Guide and support Veterinary Technicians handling specialty services cases.
Help coordinate staffing needs, assignments, and workflow to support efficient patient care.
Encourage communication, accountability, and collaboration as a leadership resource.
Support implementation of medical protocols, workflow improvements, and departmental initiatives.
Assist with team meetings and cross-department collaboration.
Maintain high standards of patient care, safety, and veterinary nursing excellence.
