Veterinary Technician Assistant - Cardiology Service

ANIMAL EMERGENCY & REFERRAL CENTER OF MINNESOTAOakdale, MN
$18 - $21Onsite

About The Position

Animal Emergency & Referral Center of Minnesota (AERC) is looking for a Technician Assistant to join our Cardiology Service. You’ll work alongside our cardiologists and Licensed Veterinary Technicians, helping with patient care, client communication, appointments, and all the moving pieces that keep a busy specialty service running smoothly. You don’t need to be a cardiology expert. You do need to be curious, flexible, comfortable with both pets and people, and excited to learn. Cardiology is a fascinating mix of patient care, advanced diagnostics, technology, and long-term relationships with clients and their pets. You’ll have the opportunity to learn about echocardiography, ECGs, cardiovascular medications, blood pressure measurement, congenital and acquired heart disease, and the care of patients with complex cardiac conditions. And you’ll be surrounded by people who can teach you. AERC is Minnesota’s only locally owned emergency and specialty veterinary hospital. You’ll work alongside specialists, emergency clinicians, LVTs, assistants, and support professionals while getting exposure to advanced veterinary medicine every day. We’re looking for someone who wants more than a list of tasks to complete. We want someone who is interested in learning why we do what we do, building new skills, and becoming an increasingly valuable part of the Cardiology team.

Requirements

  • Have an interest in cardiology, specialty medicine, or both
  • Have animal handling and restraint experience
  • Are comfortable talking with clients—not just pets!
  • Can juggle multiple priorities when the plan for the day inevitably changes
  • Notice the little details
  • Ask questions when you’re unsure
  • Actively seek feedback and genuinely want to improve
  • Have a positive attitude and like being part of a team
  • Are willing to jump in where you’re needed rather than saying, “That’s not my job”

Nice To Haves

  • Veterinary assistant or specialty hospital experience is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Handle and safely restrain patients for echocardiograms, blood draws, radiographs, and other diagnostics
  • Help facilitate outpatient appointments and in-hospital Cardiology consultations
  • Start medical records, enter charges, transport patients, and help coordinate patient flow
  • Communicate with clients in person, by phone, email, and other approved platforms
  • Help answer client questions and concerns with guidance from our cardiologists and LVTs
  • Prepare, stock, clean, and organize equipment, exam rooms, and treatment areas
  • Assist with basic technical duties according to your training and experience
  • Pitch in with the logistical and operational tasks that keep the service running efficiently
  • As your skills grow, so will your role. With training, you’ll have opportunities to take on more responsibility with Cardiology appointments, including obtaining patient histories and helping guide patients and clients through their visits.
  • Specialty support team members may assist other departments when needed and participate in after-hours support through an assigned on-call rotation or by helping Emergency & Critical Care on weekends, holidays, or other periods of operational need.
