The Veterinary Sonographer role focuses on providing ultrasound support to VEG hospitals and training facilities. This involves performing same-day ultrasound scans for pets in collaboration with emergency doctors, handling diverse patient types and scans, and adapting to new scenarios. The role also includes assisting in coordinating ultrasound education and training for hospitals, motivating colleagues to enhance their ultrasound skills, and providing support wherever needed within the hospital. Requirements

  • Credentialed as a Veterinary Technician (LVT/CVT/RVT/LVMT), diagnostic medical sonographer (RDMS), and/or equivalent experience (e.g., sonographer course certificates).
  • 3+ years veterinary ultrasound experience.
  • Previous training experience and the patience to teach and develop doctors, nurses, and fellow sonographers.
  • Comfortable mentoring others and giving/receiving feedback from colleagues.
  • Adaptability to changing environments.
  • Excellent communicator with peers, customers, and VEGgies.
  • Embrace the VEG Way and be excited to share your perspective and experience.
  • Eagerness to grow as a sonographer through training and continuing education.
  • Desire to travel to regional hospitals and off-site training facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform ultrasound studies and facilitate ultrasound training at home and regional hospitals.
  • Maintain good relationships with and accept feedback from teleconsultation radiologists.
  • Ensure all training content and activities align with VEG culture, mission, and vision, and represent accurate, up-to-date sonographic techniques.
  • Track doctor and nursing team skills with a VEG Ultrasound Certificate checklist.
  • Engage in self-reflection and program evaluation to modify and enhance VEG’s ultrasound training programs.
  • Meet regularly with medical directors, nursing trainer, and director of radiology education to discuss program development, training objectives, and needs.
  • Meet regularly with the hospital manager and medical director to discuss implementation of new training protocols, training schedules, hospital training needs, and team concerns.
  • Coordinate weekly schedule to work on floor shifts and devote time to training responsibilities.
  • Assist in developing ultrasound curriculum material, such as PowerPoints, videos, simulations, and assessments.
  • Provide educational demonstrations for doctors and nurses at other VEGs, including abdominal, thoracic, cardiac, cervical, and musculoskeletal studies.
