About The Position

Horizon Veterinary Specialists, founded in August 2018, is a state-of-the-art 24/7 emergency and critical care facility serving small animal patients. We are a growing practice looking for skilled, caring, and compassionate people to join our team. Our receptionists play a crucial role in maintaining the visual appeal of the hospital reception area, greeting and welcoming clients and patients, answering questions, triaging concerns, scheduling appointments, checking clients in and out, and processing payments. This role requires providing friendly emotional support in a compassionate and discreet manner during times of need, and comfort with various medical outcomes. The position involves working in an environment that may have unpleasant odors and noises, and potential exposure to bites, scratches, animal waste, and contagious diseases. Horizon offers opportunities for growth, development, and patient/client service through virtual and hands-on training.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of veterinary experience preferred or 3+ years customer service experience in other fields
  • Compassionate, calm team player with a positive attitude
  • Exceptional multitasking abilities
  • Strong communication skills
  • Highly organized
  • Excellent computer proficiency
  • Self-motivated, with a desire to continuously learn and grow in your role
  • Ability to handle emotionally charged situations with professionalism and resilience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially in difficult or emotional circumstances
  • Comfortable working in a veterinary environment—must not be squeamish
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and manage multiple priorities effectively

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the visual appeal of the hospital reception area
  • Greet and welcome clients and patients
  • Answer questions and triage client concerns
  • Answer calls or emails and direct to the appropriate party for resolution
  • Schedule appointments to maximize efficiency and daily flow
  • Check in and check out clients
  • Process payments
  • Offer friendly emotional support in a compassionate and discreet manner during times of need to our clients
  • Be comfortable with various medical outcomes
