About The Position

Village Veterinary Hospital in Bosque Farms, NM is looking for a Veterinary Assistant. This is a true mixed animal practice, working on most small animals, equine, bovine, sheep, pigs, llamas and alpacas. The hospital is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 8:30 am – 5:30 pm, Thursday and Saturday 1/2 days 8:30 am – 12 pm. Closed on Sunday and major holidays. Village Veterinary Hospital is a long-standing mixed animal hospital with deep ties to the community. With a deeply loyal clientele, this hospital is always busy and utilizes all associates to the highest level of their skills. Our clinic treats small animals (60%), large animals (40%), as well as emergencies. We offer full-service veterinary medical treatment, ranging from preventive medicine, dental cleanings, in-house laboratory, pharmacy, digital x-rays, digital ultrasound, house calls, and emergency surgical care.

Requirements

1 + years of veterinary clinical experience, as a veterinary assistant
Knowledge of industry tools and equipment
Passion for working with large and small animals, and their owners
Solid understanding of animal behavior and healthcare
Understands the importance of excellent communication and organizational skills

Responsibilities

Perform nursing care in a hospital or ranch setting
Proper animal handling and restraint for a variety of species
Dental procedure experience, including scaling, polishing, extractions, suturing
Skilled in IV Catheter placement, urinary catheter placement, applying casts, bandages and splints
Anesthesia monitoring and surgical experience including intubation, monitoring, pre-operative and post-operative care
Laboratory skills including cytology set-up and interpretation
Diagnostic experience including digital radiology, dental radiology, and ultrasound-guided cystocentesis
