About The Position

North Buffalo Animal Hospital is hiring a full-time Veterinary Assistant to work alongside veterinarians, technicians, and support staff to provide high-quality animal care and customer service. The role involves supporting examinations, treatments, and surgeries; caring for animals; assisting with basic laboratory work; maintaining clinic spaces and records; and communicating with pet owners. The position pays $16–$18 per hour, based on skills, experience, and qualifications. The schedule is four 10-hour shifts per week: Monday 7:45 AM–6:30 PM, Wednesday through Friday 7:45 AM–6:00 PM, and rotating Saturdays 7:45 AM–12:15 PM.

North Buffalo Animal Hospital is a sister location to Ellicott Street Animal Hospital and West Side Pet Clinic, based in Buffalo’s Kenmore neighborhood. Its state-of-the-art facility provides emergency and urgent care, diagnostics, surgery, dental services, and wellness care for pets of all ages. The team emphasizes compassionate care, client education, and individualized treatment plans.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of veterinary experience.
• Technical know-how in areas such as disinfection, administering medication, and using diagnostic equipment.
• Physical ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations, treatments, and surgeries.
• Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately.
• Prepare examination rooms and surgical areas by cleaning and sterilizing equipment and surfaces.
• Perform basic laboratory tests, including collecting blood, urine, and stool samples.
• Administer medications and vaccinations under the supervision of a veterinarian.
• Feed, bathe, and exercise animals as needed.
• Maintain accurate medical records.
• Communicate with pet owners about their pets’ care, treatment plans, and follow-up visits.
• Clean and maintain the clinic, stock supplies, and help ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
