About The Position

VCA Briarcliff Animal Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join its supportive, team-oriented, AAHA-accredited, 8-doctor practice. The hospital provides primary and illness care, soft tissue and laparoscopic surgery, dentistry, ultrasound, boarding, grooming, and other services, offering opportunities for team members to learn and develop their skills. This is a full-time opportunity with rotating Saturdays. Starting compensation is $18–$28 per hour, determined by skill set and years of experience in the field. The Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians in patient care and procedures, performs diagnostic testing, administers prescribed medications and treatments, monitors patients, and communicates with pet owners. The role also involves maintaining surgical instruments and equipment and working collaboratively with the hospital team.

Requirements

Previous experience in a veterinary setting as a Veterinary Assistant.
Comfortable handling dogs and cats of all sizes and temperaments.
High school diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

Assist veterinarians with patient care, including physical exams, surgeries, dental procedures, and urgent care.
Perform diagnostic tests such as radiographs, blood work, and urinalysis, and prepare samples for laboratory testing.
Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.
Monitor and care for patients, including pain management, wound care, and nutritional support.
Perform venipuncture.
Educate and communicate with pet owners about their pet's health, treatment plans, and post-care instructions.
Ensure proper sterilization and maintenance of surgical instruments and equipment.
