About The Position

Destination Pet is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join the team at Purple Paws Pet Clinic. The role supports veterinarians in providing compassionate nursing care and helps ensure clients and pets feel welcome and comfortable. The Veterinary Assistant also supports clinic operations through patient and prescription assistance, medical recordkeeping, laboratory testing, reception support, and maintaining clean facilities and equipment. The candidate should be friendly, outgoing, people-oriented, self-motivated, attentive to detail, an effective communicator, and technically skilled. A flexible schedule and willingness to learn and grow in the field are desired.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of clinic experience as a veterinary assistant.
• High school diploma.
• Friendly, outgoing, and people-oriented demeanor.
• Self-motivated team player who is attentive to detail.
• Effective oral and written communication skills and strong technical skills.
• Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays; weekend shifts are possible.
• Must frequently lift 40 pounds.
• Must frequently stand, walk, and climb stairs.
• Must be able to use a computer system and a multi-line telephone.
• Must be able to handle dogs on leashes and comfortably restrain animals during medical examinations.
• Must be able to work around disinfectant and sanitation chemicals, animal dander, and animal excretions.

Responsibilities

• Ensure clients and pets feel welcome and comfortable.
• Assist veterinarians in providing compassionate nursing care.
• Clean, maintain, and prepare surgical instruments and equipment.
• Maintain accurate medical records.
• Fill prescriptions as directed by a veterinarian and explain prescription directions.
• Assist receptionists with check-in and checkout procedures and provide telephone support.
• Perform various laboratory tests.
• Keep facilities clean and well maintained.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
