Overnight Veterinary Assistant
About The Position
VCA Milwaukee Emergency Center for Animals (MECA) in Greenfield, Wisconsin, is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join its overnight emergency and critical care team. The facility has served the Milwaukee community since 2009 and provides emergency and critical care for pets using modern technology and a team of compassionate professionals. The Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and technicians during emergency procedures and provides attentive care to emergency patients. The role also involves communicating with pet owners, maintaining emergency equipment and supplies, and collaborating with the veterinary team to support high-quality care and smooth operations during emergencies. This is a full-time overnight position working 12-hour shifts from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., three shifts per week. Alternating weekends and rotating holidays are required. Compensation is $18–$24 per hour; the starting range is determined by skill set and years of experience in the field.
Responsibilities
- Support veterinarians and technicians during emergency surgeries, trauma care, and critical treatments.
- Provide compassionate care to emergency patients, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and providing comfort.
- Communicate with pet owners about their pet's condition and care instructions.
- Maintain emergency equipment and ensure supplies are stocked and ready for use.
- Collaborate with the emergency veterinary team to support high-quality care and seamless operations during emergencies.
