About The Position
Metropolitan Veterinary Associates is hiring an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to support its emergency department in Norristown, Pennsylvania. The role assists veterinary technicians and veterinarians in delivering timely, high-quality care, including support during emergency procedures and communication with pet parents. The schedule is Sunday through Wednesday, 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., with some holidays required. Pay starts at $20.00 per hour, plus a 25% shift differential.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a veterinary, animal care, or shelter environment is preferred but not required for applicants with a strong desire to learn.
- Solid communication skills, particularly under pressure, and the ability to collaborate in a team-focused environment.
- Basic knowledge of animal handling, restraint, and common veterinary terminology, or willingness to learn quickly.
- Calm, organized demeanor and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy when handling medical records, supplies, and patient care.
- Passion for continuous learning and refining skills and knowledge.

Responsibilities
- Assist with triage, anesthesia, surgery, and discharge preparation.
- Support emergency procedures by helping with patient restraint, positioning, and basic treatments.
- Prepare and restock treatment areas; keep supplies and equipment clean, organized, and available.
- Communicate compassionately with pet parents, answer basic questions, direct them to appropriate team members, and provide a comforting presence.
- Perform basic laboratory tasks, such as setting up samples for testing and collecting vital patient data under the guidance of a technician or veterinarian.
- Share important updates and collaborate with emergency technicians and doctors to support an efficient, team-oriented work environment.
