About The Position

Destination Pet is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join the team at Northshore Animal Hospital. The role supports veterinarians in providing compassionate nursing care and helps clients and pets feel welcome and comfortable. The assistant also supports clinic operations, including maintaining medical records, preparing instruments and equipment, assisting with prescriptions and laboratory tests, supporting reception, and keeping the facility clean. The hospital is described as very busy, and the position calls for a team player who can multitask and work a flexible schedule that includes nights, weekends, and some holidays. Some experience is required, and training is available.

Requirements

At least 1 year of clinic experience as a veterinary assistant.
High school diploma.
Friendly, outgoing, people-oriented manner.
Self-motivated team player who is attentive to detail and able to multitask.
Effective oral and written communication skills and strong technical skills.
Flexible schedule, including availability for evenings or nights, weekends, and some holidays.
Ability to frequently lift 40 pounds, stand, walk, and climb stairs.
Ability to use a computer system and a multi-line telephone.
Ability to handle dogs on leashes and restrain animals during medical examinations.
Ability to work around disinfectant and sanitation chemicals, animal dander, and animal excretions.

Responsibilities

Welcome clients and pets and help them feel comfortable.
Assist veterinarians in providing compassionate nursing care.
Clean, maintain, and prepare surgical instruments and equipment.
Maintain accurate medical records.
Fill prescriptions as directed by a veterinarian and explain prescription directions.
Assist receptionists with check-in and checkout procedures and provide telephone support.
Perform various laboratory tests.
Keep facilities clean and well maintained.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
