About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Triage Veterinary Assistant for their 24/7 Emergency department. This role involves triaging emergency cases, assisting DVMs with estimates, performing diagnostics such as radiographs and labwork, setting up patients in ICU or Inpatient wards, discharging patients, and handling client communication. Veterinary Assistants are expected to provide nursing care according to hospital standards, report patient information during rounds, understand medication classifications and side effects, administer medications, perform physical exams, and possess working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment. They must also remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in their assigned role.

Responsibilities

  • Triage emergency cases as they come in
  • Assist DVM with crafting and going over estimates as needed
  • Perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc)
  • Set patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward
  • Discharge patients
  • Handle client communication
  • Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values
  • Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds
  • Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response
  • Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration
  • Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort
  • Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications
  • Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor
