About The Position

Vista Veterinary Specialists is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our growing Cardiology Team on a full-time basis. Our 24-hour emergency and specialty veterinary hospital recently relocated to a newly expanded 17,300-square-foot advanced medical facility designed to support cutting-edge specialty and critical care medicine. The hospital features four fully equipped operating rooms, an advanced on-site CT scanner, dedicated ICU and Intermediate Care Units, digital radiography and ultrasonography, endoscopy, and full in-house laboratory services. We provide advanced veterinary specialty services in Emergency & Critical Care, Cardiology, Internal Medicine, and Radiology. Our collaborative, multi-disciplinary team is committed to delivering exceptional patient care and advanced diagnostics in a fast-paced specialty hospital environment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, procedures, disease states, and treatment protocols
  • Experience with patient monitoring equipment, in-house laboratory equipment, radiology, and anesthesia monitoring
  • Ability to perform accurate medical calculations including medication dosages and client estimates
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • A proactive, self-motivated, and team-oriented mindset
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced specialty and emergency veterinary environment
  • Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds occasionally

Nice To Haves

  • CT imaging experience is a plus, though training will be provided

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians with the diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of inpatient and outpatient cardiology cases
  • Support patients with complex, chronic, and multi-system medical conditions
  • Perform patient triage, obtain detailed medical histories, and monitor patient status
  • Assist in developing and implementing individualized patient care plans
  • Collect, prepare, and process laboratory samples according to hospital protocols
  • Maintain accurate medical records, including treatments, medications, diagnostics, and patient vitals
  • Assist with diagnostic imaging procedures including radiography and CT imaging
  • Prepare and position patients for imaging and monitor patients during procedures
  • Support anesthetic procedures including patient preparation, induction, monitoring, and recovery
  • Provide compassionate client communication and education regarding treatment plans, diagnostics, and home care instructions
  • Collaborate closely with veterinarians, RVTs, and specialty teams to ensure high-quality patient care
