About The Position

This position is located at the Beale Veterinary Treatment Facility. The Veterinarian serves as a recognized subject matter expert and leader in veterinary medical care, providing comprehensive and high-quality animal health services to support the animal health mission readiness and public health of the military community. This role involves the planning and execution of advanced veterinary medical care, complex diagnostics, surgery, and treatment planning, demonstrating expertise in a broad range of domestic animals and medical conditions. The Veterinarian develops, implements, and evaluates comprehensive veterinary medical programs, including preventive medicine, disease surveillance, and public health initiatives. They advise and collaborate with the management team on all aspects of veterinary medical operations, including budget management, resource allocation, facility maintenance, and manpower management. Additionally, this position provides technical supervision and mentorship to a team of veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff at large installations.

Requirements

  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • Must not have an aversion to animals, blood, bodily fluids, animal tissues, strong odors, needles, or sharp instruments.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods, restrain animals, kneel, reach, etc.
  • Ability to obtain/renew United States Department of Agriculture/Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA/APHIS) accreditation within first 60-days of employment.
  • Ability to work occasional Saturdays for special events - as needed by management.
  • A successful background investigation submission to the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) must be met no later than 30 calendar days after entry on duty or placement in the position for internal candidates.
  • Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability determination.
  • Ability to lift animals and supplies up to 45 pounds, and on occasion greater than 45 pounds with the help of others.
  • Long periods of standing, walking, restraining, kneeling, and reaching, etc.
  • Must have use of fingers; Both hand and both legs are required.
  • Position requires exposure to intermittent excessive noise.
  • Must be able to receive all mandated immunizations to work in a direct-patient capacity and/or veterinary environment IAW AR 40-562 chap 4-1.
  • Possess a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree , i.e., Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), obtained at a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA).
  • Possess a valid unrestricted state license to practice veterinary medicine (may be a valid state license from any US state).
  • Official transcripts must be provided prior to time of hire.

  • If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
