About The Position

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is seeking veterinarians to provide compassionate in-home hospice and euthanasia care in Baton Rouge, Merrydale, Monticello, Louisiana, and surrounding metropolitan areas. The privately and family-owned organization emphasizes professional independence, meaningful medicine, flexible scheduling, and a supportive team that coordinates appointments, works with families, and assists with aftercare. Hospice experience is not required; support is provided for veterinarians transitioning into this area of practice. The position is offered on 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-day schedules, including self-managed flexible scheduling opportunities with prorated compensation based on the agreed schedule. Four-day positions start at $110,000 annually, and five-day positions have a $135,000 annual base salary, with quarterly performance-based bonus opportunities. Benefits vary by position and eligibility.

Requirements

DVM, VMD, or equivalent veterinary degree.
Active North Carolina veterinary license or eligibility.
Valid driver's license.
Compassionate approach and commitment to exceptional end-of-life care.
Availability consistent with the position's schedule, including some weekends.

Responsibilities

Provide in-home hospice care for pets.
Provide peaceful euthanasia care.
Spend quality time supporting families during end-of-life appointments.
Coordinate care with the organization's support team, which assists with appointments, families, and aftercare.
