About The Position

Coastal Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced veterinarian or new graduate to join its established four-doctor practice in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The hospital provides comprehensive medical, surgical, and dental care to pets in the Outer Banks. Its patient population is approximately 95% small animals and 5% exotics. Veterinarians perform procedures ranging from routine spays to exploratory surgeries, and a board-certified orthopedic surgeon visits monthly. The team also provides exotic pet care, house calls, and same-day appointments. Doctors typically see approximately 20 patients daily, with standard 20-minute appointments and drop-off options for patients needing longer visits. The stand-alone hospital includes a surgical suite, dedicated radiology and treatment areas, a specialized dental suite, and an in-house pharmacy. Equipment includes ultrasound with Doppler, digital X-ray, therapeutic laser, IDEXX in-house blood and urine diagnostic systems, an exam lift table with integrated scale, and a Tono-Pen. The practice is discussing adding exam rooms and plans to transition toward a paper-lite workflow. The welcoming team includes long-standing staff members, two licensed veterinary technicians, and two team members pursuing licensure. With approximately two technicians or assistants per doctor, the practice encourages collaboration, questions, and continued learning. New graduates receive mentorship through case discussions and guidance from experienced veterinarians, hands-on surgical training, longer appointment times during mentorship, and support building confidence and managing their own patients. The schedule is four weekdays per week, with an eventual Saturday rotation every fourth to fifth Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; veterinarians receive an additional day off during those weeks. There are no required after-hours or on-call duties, though optional after-hours emergency work is available for additional income. Part-time opportunities are available. The practice offers salary and benefits including health and dental coverage, a 401(k), continuing education days, vacation, and an employee assistance program.
