About The Position

The Vehicle Modification Technician performs inspections, layouts, fabrication, and installation of new and modified Class 7 and 8 truck and trailer chassis and components, including current or revised applications. The role involves working on truck systems and components, diagnosing or learning to diagnose issues, and fitting and installing panels, accessories, and fenders. Rush Truck Centers is a network of commercial vehicle dealerships representing truck and bus manufacturers, including Peterbilt, International, Hino, Isuzu, Ford, IC Bus, and Blue Bird. The employee may also be asked by their leader to perform other duties or follow other instructions.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Two years of experience.
Commercial driver's license.
Must be insurable.

Nice To Haves

DOT inspection experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

Read job orders and observe and listen to vehicles in operation to determine malfunctions and plan work procedures.
Install, repair, and inspect Class 7 and 8 truck chassis, engines and driveline, axles, steering, cooling systems, cabs, bodies, and mountings, including understanding the reasons for torque settings.
Install, repair, and inspect vehicle hydraulic pumps, motors, and piping, including installing and testing wet kits.
Install, repair, and inspect vehicle compressed air systems, including vehicle braking, related fail-safe systems, and proper installation of lines and reservoirs.
Work on vehicle control, starting, charging, and lighting systems and circuits.
Use background knowledge to learn chassis, brake, engine, and drivetrain diagnostics.
Fit and install steel and aluminum panels, accessories, and fenders using shears, snips, cutoff tools, rivets, and fasteners with minimal guidance.
Follow other instructions and perform other duties requested by the employee's leader.
