About The Position

CarMax is hiring a Vehicle Delivery Driver to transport vehicles safely and reliably between CarMax locations, approved vendors, and customers’ locations. The role supports inventory flow and on-time customer deliveries, including delivering purchased vehicles to customers’ homes and picking up vehicles for appraisal. Drivers use company-provided trucks and are expected to keep their equipment clean, maintained, and ready for operation.

The position involves vehicle inspections, DOT-compliant logs and documentation, and the safe loading, securing, transportation, and unloading of vehicles. It includes hands-on freight handling, climbing and working on multi-level transport decks, and working outdoors in varied weather conditions. Drivers also prepare and complete home deliveries and appraisal pickups according to CarMax Standard Work, handle paperwork accurately, and represent CarMax professionally to customers, vendors, store associates, and the public. Requirements

• Be at least 21 years old and hold a valid state-issued driver’s license.
• Have a clean driving record with no serious violations in the past three years and meet CarMax’s Driver Safety Evaluation criteria.
• Be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Be able to secure, block, and restrain vehicles and perform repetitive tasks involving pulling, torquing, and tensioning chains, binders, and straps.
• Be able to climb, bend, and kneel to access and secure vehicles on multi-level transport decks.
• Meet DOT and FMCSA qualification requirements.
• Be comfortable working outdoors, including exposure to noise and inclement weather.
• Have strong communication and teamwork skills and adhere to CarMax policies and safety standards.
• Work efficiently and use time wisely.
• Have at least 1 year of customer service experience and at least 1 year of delivery driving experience or CarMax experience.
• Possess or obtain a DOT Medical Card before starting with CarMax.

• Additional state-specific endorsements may apply, such as Illinois Class C, Indiana “For Hire,” Louisiana Chauffeur’s License, or Mississippi Class D Commercial.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with DOT and CarMax standards.
• Maintain accurate and compliant DOT logs and documentation.
• Load, secure, transport, and unload vehicles safely and efficiently, following FMCSA and CarMax load-securement standards.
• Move vehicles between CarMax locations, approved vendors, and customer locations using a company-provided truck.
• Keep company equipment clean, well-maintained, and operationally ready.
• Deliver vehicles accurately and on time to support inventory flow and keep customers and stores on schedule.
• Prepare and execute home deliveries and appraisal pickups at customer locations according to CarMax Standard Work.
• Complete delivery and pickup paperwork accurately.
• Interact professionally with customers, vendors, store associates, and the public, representing CarMax values.
• Work safely outdoors and perform physical vehicle-handling tasks, including climbing, bending, kneeling, and securing vehicles.

Benefits

• Paid sick time: eligible full-time hourly or commission/incentive associates can earn up to 48 hours per year, accrued each pay period.
• Paid vacation time: eligible full-time hourly or commission/incentive associates receive 80 to 200 hours per year after a 90-day waiting period, depending on years of continuous service.
• Paid holidays: eligible full-time hourly or commission/incentive associates receive 8 hours of pay for each of 6 scheduled paid holidays per year, plus 1 floating holiday.
