About The Position

Eaton’s division is currently seeking a VAVE Division Engineering Manager. This role involves developing and owning the Tech Roadmap for VAVE (Value Analysis/Value Engineering), blended with the NPI Tech Roadmap. The manager will conduct thorough analyses of existing products to identify areas for improvement in design, materials, and manufacturing processes, and deliver projects that optimize product design, manufacturing processes, and cost structures to enhance overall value. The position focuses on identifying opportunities for cost reduction, quality improvement, and efficiency enhancement throughout the product lifecycle, leading initiatives to implement value engineering principles, and ensuring products meet or exceed customer expectations while maximizing profitability. This involves working closely with cross-functional teams, leading value engineering ideation events and projects across all divisional sites and strategic suppliers, and applying systematic methodologies to enhance product value and reduce costs to meet year-over-year savings objectives. Collaboration with design, manufacturing, and procurement teams is crucial for implementing cost-effective solutions without compromising product quality or performance. The role utilizes Pro-PM and waterline processes for project prioritization and resource allocation alignment, identifies potential risks associated with proposed changes, and develops mitigation plans. The manager will stay abreast of industry trends, technologies, and best practices to benchmark products against competitors and market leaders, identify or define best practices within engineering, and document, train, and deploy them. Maintaining comprehensive documentation of value engineering projects, promoting and teaching Design for Six Sigma (OfSS) tools, leading technical mentoring, and supporting cross-site engineering audits and reviews are also key responsibilities. The role involves creating effective strategies to streamline processes, cut out waste, and save money. The position is fixed location-based in the Moon Township, PA office, with potential for telecommuting from a home office. Approximately 20% domestic and international travel to manufacturing sites and design centers is required to facilitate VAVE events, review projects, and idea pipelines.

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Engineering (any) or a directly related field plus seven (7) years of engineering responsibility including project management.
  • Five (5) years of experience in the following (experience may be gained concurrently): Development of and tracking effective engineering metrics to drive projects to successful completion
  • Five (5) years of experience in the following (experience may be gained concurrently): Collaborating with manufacturing locations to coordinate successful product launches while meeting project schedules.
  • Five (5) years of experience in the following (experience may be gained concurrently): Documenting, planning, executing, managing and controlling programs and technical resources.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the following (experience may be gained concurrently): Management of a diverse global engineering team to accelerate engineering development
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification

Responsibilities

  • Identifies or defines best practices within engineering and documents, trains and deploys the same.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of value engineering projects, including cost savings achieved, design changes implemented, and overall impact on product performance.
  • Promote and teach Design for Six Sigma (OfSS) tools, lead technical mentoring, and support cross-site engineering audits and reviews.
  • Create effective strategies to help streamline processes, cut out waste and save money.
