About The Position

Care Initiatives is hiring a Van Driver for Cherokee Specialty Care, a 62-bed long-term care skilled nursing community in Cherokee, Iowa. The Van Driver transports residents to appointments and activities while supporting their safety and comfort. The role works with nursing and facility teams, residents, families, and staff, and includes maintaining the vehicle and coordinating service needs. Reliable attendance and flexible hours, including weekends, are required.

Requirements

• Be at least 21 years of age.
• Hold a valid driver’s license with a Class D Chauffeur Endorsement.
• Have no more than two traffic violations within the last three years.
• Have no previous convictions for driving while under the influence.
• Hold CPR and first aid certifications or be willing to obtain them.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport residents to medical appointments, outings, and special events.
• Assist residents with boarding and exiting the van, including securing wheelchairs.
• Follow schedules and coordinate timely pick-ups and drop-offs.
• Observe residents during transport and report concerns to nursing staff.
• Complete incident reports and communicate with supervisors as needed.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and well-functioning vehicle, including checking fuel, fluids, and basic supplies.
• Coordinate vehicle maintenance and service needs.
• Communicate daily with nursing and facility teams.
• Build positive relationships with residents, families, and staff.
• Maintain reliable attendance and work flexible hours, including weekends.
