About The Position

The Van Driver transports students from the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula’s Redwood City Clubhouse to their homes during the school year, including destinations in East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Redwood City. The role also provides transportation for meals and helps ensure vans and the student pick-up area are safe, clean, and ready for use. Work hours are Monday through Friday, generally 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., with flexibility required because hours vary with student transportation needs. Employment during June and July is not guaranteed because the position follows the school calendar. The position reports to the Director of Operations.

Requirements

• Be at least 21 years old.
• Hold a current and valid California driver’s license; a standard Class C license is sufficient and no special license is required.
• Have a clean driving record.
• Provide proof of personal auto insurance.
• Be able to work independently and adapt to changes in the work environment.
• Be flexible and adaptable to changing schedules based on student transportation needs.
• Complete required onboarding training and the mandatory driving class.
• Complete LiveScan fingerprinting, a background check, and a tuberculosis (TB) test as part of the hiring process.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with the mechanical operation of automobiles.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience driving high school students.
• Passion for BGCP’s mission and the kids it serves.

Responsibilities

• Provide transportation to BGCP students during the school year.
• Provide transportation for meals.
• Maintain vehicle logs.
• Perform routine vehicle safety checks.
• Maintain the cleanliness and readiness of vans.
• Manage and uphold parking lot rules and regulations during student pick-up.
• Know travel routes and destinations and maintain familiarity with roads.
• In an emergency, manage details of roadside assistance and/or towing for van repairs.
• Perform additional relevant duties as assigned.
