About The Position

SAIC is seeking a motivated and energetic UX/UI Designer to conduct user research and usability testing and ensure designs meet user requirements across the VA Medical Disability Exam (MDE) program. The program provides Veterans with timely, accurate, and thorough medical examinations. The designer collaborates with software developers, systems engineers, and other product team members in an agile software development team to deliver quality products that meet stakeholder needs and IT Accessibility Standards. The role involves optimizing services and products, developing mockups, wireframes, task flows, and specifications, and creating interactive prototypes and precise technical handoffs. The designer partners with engineering teams to align designs with component-based front-end frameworks, support component reusability, and reduce development friction. They communicate screen designs, interaction models, end-to-end experiences, and target audiences to project team members; consider human-computer interaction; evaluate existing applications and design improved alternatives; and keep current with industry trends and competitor products.

  • Experience with Figma and Framer for creating wireframes and prototypes.
  • Strong understanding of UI/UX design patterns for modern front-end frameworks.
  • Expert proficiency in high-utility wireframing and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD, with a focus on logical layout hierarchy.
  • Conceptual understanding of modern web technologies, including HTML5, CSS3/SASS, and responsive layouts such as Flexbox and Grid, to ensure design feasibility.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present concepts, ideas, and insights to project teams and clients.
  • Solid understanding of user experience design fundamentals, including typography and data visualization techniques.
  • Self-motivation and initiative to continually meet with team leads.

  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance frameworks such as HIPAA or FedRAMP.
  • Ability to obtain and hold a public trust position and favorable suitability based on a background investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize services and products and develop mockups for design and development teams.
  • Develop structural wireframes, mockups, and task flows tailored to component-based front-end frameworks such as Angular and/or React.
  • Partner with engineering teams to align wireframes with framework constraints, maximize component reusability, and reduce development friction.
  • Deliver precise design handoffs, component specifications, and interactive prototypes that map clearly to front-end development structures.
  • Develop and maintain design wireframes and specifications.
  • Communicate screen designs, interaction models, end-to-end experiences, and target audiences to project team members.
  • Consider the human-computer interface elements of designs.
  • Compare the user experience of existing applications and design better alternatives.
  • Keep current with industry trends and competitor products and communicate design prototypes and ideas to developers.
  • Work with development teams to design and implement attractive, consistent designs.
  • Develop task flows and wireframes based on user needs.
