MedSpeed•Elmhurst, IL
•$125,000 - $135,000•Hybrid

About The Position

The UX/UI Designer will lead UX design for MedSpeed’s driver-facing web and mobile solutions. This hands-on role creates clear, intuitive, professional experiences that simplify order fulfillment for employed drivers, outside couriers, and courier partners. Working closely with Product and Engineering, the designer translates user needs into considered user experiences and polished, production-ready UI designs. The role covers end-to-end interaction and visual design, including rapid prototyping and testing, production specifications, responsive web and native mobile interfaces (primarily Android), and a lightweight design system. The designer collaborates from early discovery through implementation and release, advocates for drivers while accounting for business and technical constraints, and uses analytics and frontline feedback to improve usability and operational outcomes. The position is hybrid, with attendance in the Elmhurst, Illinois office every Thursday required; only candidates local to the Chicagoland area will be considered.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years designing UX/UI for web and/or mobile applications.
  • A portfolio demonstrating design reasoning, clean structured interfaces, responsive web, native mobile, and at least one complex workflow made simpler.
  • Experience designing software for enterprise, B2B SaaS, operational, logistics, or frontline/field use.
  • Fluency in Figma, including prototyping and component libraries.
  • A solid grasp of responsive layout and native mobile patterns, particularly Android; the posting also calls for strong understanding of iOS and Android native mobile design patterns.
  • Working knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG).
  • Basic understanding of front-end constraints and implementation considerations.
  • Ability to communicate design decisions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including engineers, executives, and drivers, and to adjust designs when warranted.
  • Bachelor’s degree in UX Design, Interaction Design, HCI, Product Design, Graphic Design, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience and a strong portfolio.
  • Local to the Chicagoland area.
  • Attend the Elmhurst, Illinois office every Thursday.

Responsibilities

  • Design end-to-end driver applications for web and mobile used by MedSpeed employees, outside couriers, and courier vendor partners.
  • Map routes and stops to identify friction and reduce taps, decisions, and cognitive load in drivers’ repeated tasks.
  • Create wireframes and clickable Figma prototypes to test concepts.
  • Design for field conditions and edge cases, including offline states, failed scans, wrong addresses, partial pickups, and error recovery.
  • Deliver production-ready UI designs and annotated specifications for Engineering.
  • Produce high-fidelity responsive web and native mobile designs, primarily for Android, while considering iOS conventions where relevant.
  • Apply visual hierarchy, typography, spacing, and contrast to make critical information legible in field conditions.
  • Modernize the interface while following MedSpeed brand guidelines.
  • Build and maintain a lightweight design system with reusable components and documentation.
  • Partner with the CPTO and Product Leads to understand product intent and business objectives.
  • Participate in early discovery, help ensure the right problem is being solved, and challenge assumptions when appropriate.
  • Work with Tech Leads on feasibility and remain involved through refinement, sprint planning, design QA, and release.
  • Represent drivers’ needs in product discussions while respecting business and technical constraints.
  • Use analytics, usage patterns, and feedback from support and operations to identify experience problems.
  • Propose improvements intended to reduce training time, support tickets, and time per stop.
  • Continue simplifying the product as it grows.
