UX/UI Designer

About The Position

Ajaia is hiring a Digital Product Designer to lead discovery and design on client engagements and Ajaia’s own product suite. The role involves speaking with people who perform the work, observing their workflows, and translating findings into user journeys, wireframes, and prototypes that engineers can build from. The designer tests designs with real users before production code is written and maintains the design standard for Ajaia’s products. This is a hands-on role combining research and design. The position is fully remote, with discovery, user testing, and collaboration with clients and engineers conducted online. AI tools are used daily to support research, synthesis, wireframing, and prototyping; the designer is responsible for evaluating and refining AI-generated work. Staying current with design and prototyping tools is part of the role. Compensation is $10,000 to $14,000 base, depending on experience, plus a performance bonus of up to 100% of base salary.

Requirements

  • Independently conduct discovery, including interviews, usability testing, and analysis of behavioral data.
  • Move quickly from synthesis to a working prototype.
  • Design human checkpoints into workflows rather than adding them later.
  • Be comfortable defending evidence-based recommendations when they differ from stakeholder expectations.
  • Use AI daily for research, synthesis, and prototyping, and distinguish useful output from poor-quality output.
  • Work directly alongside engineers through the build.
  • Be comfortable conducting interviews and user testing over video in a fully remote setting.

Nice To Haves

  • A public portfolio or case studies available for review before an interview.
  • Experience designing AI-native workflows, including determining where human checkpoints belong.
  • Consulting, agency, or professional services experience with concurrent clients.
  • Comfort with lightweight front-end implementation.
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct discovery for client engagements by interviewing people doing the work, observing their workflows over screen-share, and identifying differences between reported and observed behavior.
  • Conduct research with users of Ajaia’s own products.
  • Synthesize findings into evidenced user needs, distinguishing those needs from what users request.
  • Create user journeys, wireframes, and prototypes that engineers can implement without guesswork.
  • Design human approval checkpoints into workflows where needed.
  • Test designs with real users before production code is written.
  • Use evidence to challenge stakeholder feature requests and explain recommendations in actionable terms.
  • Maintain a consistent design standard across Ajaia’s product suite.
  • Use AI tools by default for prototyping and other design work, evaluating when AI-generated approaches are effective and when manual rebuilding is necessary.
  • Hand off design work in an implementation-ready state and stay involved during development to identify deviations from design intent.

Benefits

  • Competitive benefits.
  • Performance bonus of up to 100% of base salary.
