The Utility Worker and Utility Worker CDL positions support the Collection System Maintenance division by performing manual tasks and operating and caring for LRWRA equipment and property. These are safety-sensitive positions requiring a company uniform. The roles are part of the LRWRA career path process, allowing employees to progress to the next position after meeting the specified qualifications; each successive level includes the requirements of the previous level. Workers follow directions from the Crew Leader CDL and/or Supervisor; help load and unload materials; use hand tools; perform backfill and cleanup; maintain tools, equipment, and a good driving record; and follow work procedures and safety practices. Work may involve exposure to hazardous chemicals, flammable liquids, biological hazards, toxic or flammable compressed gases, and confined spaces. Employees may be asked to undertake other reasonable tasks within their capabilities that benefit the community and LRWRA. The qualification chart describes two levels: Utility Worker (NE-Grade 1) and Utility Worker CDL (NE-Grade 2). Utility Worker requires a high school diploma or GED, a minimum age of 18, and at least six months of relevant experience. The CDL level additionally requires advancement to at least Step 2 Utility Worker, cross-training and skills-test completion, and a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker Endorsement. Employees must be available for on-call work on weekdays, weekends, and holidays as required.
