About The Position

The Utility Systems Technician collects and tests water samples and installs, inspects, tests, repairs, and replaces water meters and backflow devices. The position also responds to customer inquiries and complaints, flushes fire hydrants and waterlines, documents inspection and maintenance work, and maintains necessary equipment. Other similar duties may be assigned as required.

Requirements

• Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
• Knowledge of Utility Services principles and practices.
• Knowledge of equipment and tools of the trade.
• Meet the City’s criteria for an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to obtain North Carolina Grade C Water Distribution Certification within six months of hire; failure to obtain it within six months may result in termination.

Nice To Haves

• Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one within six months of hire. Failure to obtain it within six months may result in termination.

Responsibilities

• Test, repair, and replace water meters.
• Respond to customer inquiries or complaints.
• Perform routine flushing of fire hydrants and blow offs at dead-end waterlines and other problem areas.
• Complete analyses and reports, and document information from inspections, testing, and maintenance.
• Maintain, calibrate, and clean equipment needed for jobs.
• Perform other similar duties as required.
