About The Position

Alutiiq Logistics & Maintenance Services, LLC (ALMS) is hiring a Water Distribution Technician at Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida. The technician performs general repairs and maintenance involving water distribution systems, including inspecting, installing, maintaining, repairing, and replacing system equipment and water and sewer lines. The role also includes maintaining hydrants, valves, meters, pumps, and motors; conducting utility locates; collecting water samples; and performing preventive maintenance. The technician operates vehicles, tools, and light, medium, and heavy equipment used for water and wastewater systems, and performs work in confined spaces using required safety precautions. Duties also include completing work orders, initiating material requisitions, assisting with material and labor estimates, and performing other duties as assigned. The pay rate is $41.53 per hour.

Requirements

Five years of experience relevant to the job description.
Three years of verifiable experience troubleshooting water distribution system equipment to diagnose problems and perform repairs.
State of Florida Class E driver’s license or equivalent.
State of Florida Class 2 or above System Distribution Operator’s license, or State of Florida Class C or above Water Plant Operator’s license.

Responsibilities

Inspect, install, and maintain equipment associated with the water distribution system.
Repair and replace broken water and sewer lines, including transmission lines, distribution mains, and water service lines.
Use appropriate repair techniques to provide sanitary water, including disinfecting newly installed pipes or parts used in repairs.
Maintain, repair, and replace fire hydrants as required.
Maintain control valves and perform maintenance on gate- and butterfly-type valves.
Locate and raise exposed or buried valves; consult water atlases, construction blueprints, and other records to locate them.
Update and modify records following installations of valves and other water distribution equipment.
Test, repair, and replace water distribution meters of various sizes as needed.
Perform ship-to-shore connection and disconnection for water and wastewater services.
Use electronic detectors to trace and mark water mains or service lines.
Operate vehicles, equipment, and tools, including service trucks, backhoes, concrete/asphalt cutting saws, jackhammers, and trench boxes.
Operate light, medium, and heavy equipment used in water or wastewater treatment facility and system maintenance.
Perform confined-space work using safety precautions before entry.
Remove and replace water distribution system equipment, including electric motors, pumps, and valves of various sizes.
Perform routine preventive maintenance on water distribution components and equipment.
Collect and send water samples for analysis.
Use Safety Data Sheets to identify chemical characteristics.
Complete work orders daily and accurately.
Initiate material requisitions for parts and materials needed for repairs.
Assist with material and labor estimates.
Perform other duties as assigned.
