Job Summary Performs company field operations including manual labor and other duties necessary to accomplish the repair and maintenance of our natural gas distribution facilities. Fabricates, installs, removes, adjusts gas meters, regulators and related piping to assure the customer a safe, cost effective and reliable gas supply including large commercial and industrial work.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Able to hear oral communication either in person or via electronic device not limited to telephone, cell phone or laptop/tablet/computer.
  • Able to obtain a valid driver’s license.
  • Able to operate a motor vehicle including ability enter and exit the vehicle.
  • Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
  • Able to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, balance, climb, crawl, reach, stand, walk, pull, lift, use fingers and grasp on a daily basis.
  • Able to exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally and/or minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise maneuver objects.
  • Able to distinguish the differences between all colors.
  • Able to work rotating shifts, assigned holidays and overtime when required.
  • Able to work outdoors with some exposure to all weather conditions.
  • Able to handle emergency situations including possible exposure to explosive environment.
  • Able to be included in a random drug screen pool required for DOT safety sensitive positions.
  • Able to respond to emergency calls and/or callouts and occasionally return to work while off duty.

Nice To Haves

  • No prior experience needed (Level I)
  • Must have a Gas Fitters card 1yr primary emergency response (Level II)
  • Requires Minneapolis Gasfitter’s Card 7 years of gas utility experience including at least one year at Level II (Level III)

Responsibilities

  • Responds to and investigates emergency calls to ensure safe delivery of natural gas and to maintain public and personal safety.
  • Responds to utility related calls for all customers, locates gas leaks at customer’s premise, and takes necessary steps to maintain public and personal safety.
  • Maintains and repairs the gas distribution system as needed.
  • Performs other related tasks including, but not limited to leak survey work, line locating, meter reading, meter painting, and work order system documentation.
  • Participates in training externally and internally, both field and classroom to increase job knowledge and competency.
  • Advises and assists other employees on the job to provide technical, safety and procedural knowledge.
  • Operates and maintains company vehicle in a safe manner, controls parts inventory, and is responsible for tool and equipment condition in order to ensure safe efficient service.
  • Locates and repairs gas leaks on residential or commercial meter and regulation equipment and related piping to assure customer safety and distribution system integrity.
  • Conducts customer field surveys to obtain customer expectations and accurate customer load information for the design, planning, scheduling and installation process to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Fabricates, tests, codes and fills orders on time to meet customer requested installation dates for meter installation activity in order to provide installation crews with meter and regulation equipment that conform to CenterPoint Energy standards.
  • Reads and records meter readings.
  • Locks and unlocks meter assemblies as requested.
