About The Position

Maryland Masonic Homes is seeking a Full-time Utility Mechanic/Shop Clerk to join their team. This role involves general maintenance of the facility, including basic maintenance duties, preparing activity rooms, moving furniture and supplies, assisting with snow and ice removal, and performing light maintenance tasks. The position also includes inventory management, processing purchase orders, and obtaining parts and supplies from vendors. A working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, and machinery mechanics is required. This job description is not exhaustive and duties may change.

Requirements

  • High School diploma required.
  • Working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, and machinery mechanics.
  • Previous experience in maintenance.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the public.
  • Patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm.
  • Willingness to handle difficult residents.
  • Ability to function independently.
  • Flexibility, personal integrity, and ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Willingness to seek out new methods and principles and incorporate them into existing practices.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license with less than 3 points.
  • Ability to meet the standards of the MMH MVP Customer Service Program.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately.
  • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and move equipment, supplies, etc., in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Communicates with other departments.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance of the facility with little or no supervision.
  • Prepare activity rooms for recreational events, move furniture and supplies.
  • Move resident's furniture and belongings.
  • Assist with clearing roads, walks, and parking areas of snow, ice, and debris.
  • Perform general maintenance duties such as light bulb changes, inspections, reporting, inventory stocking and counting, and cleaning.
  • Assist maintenance mechanics when tasks require more than one person.
  • Monitor and maintain current inventory levels.
  • Process purchasing orders as required, track orders, and investigate problems.
  • Verify materials needed are being provided and appropriately utilized.
  • Obtain parts and supplies from local vendors.
  • Process and document returns as required.
