About The Position

Maryland Masonic Homes, a Continuing Care Retirement Community located in Cockeysville, Maryland, has an immediate opening for a Full-time Utility Mechanic/Plumber. This role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems, responding to maintenance requests and emergencies, and performing preventative maintenance. The position requires availability for on-call and weekend rotations. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of plumbing systems, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work effectively with residents and staff, demonstrating patience, respect, and professionalism.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED; vocational training or apprenticeship in plumbing preferred.
Valid plumbing license or certification as required by state or local law.
Minimum 3 years of plumbing experience, preferably in a healthcare or senior living environment.
Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, tools, equipment, and safety procedures.
Ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods.
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially with elderly individuals.
Ability to pass background checks and health screenings.
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
Must be able to lift, push, pull and move equipment, supplies, etc., in excess of 50 pounds.
Must be able to work outside during inclement weather.
Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.
Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.

Nice To Haves

Vocational training or apprenticeship in plumbing preferred.
Experience in a healthcare or senior living environment.
Experience working in retirement facilities, hospitals, or similar residential environments.
Knowledge of ADA plumbing compliance and accessibility standards.

Responsibilities

Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems including sinks, toilets, bathtubs, water heaters, piping, valves, and fixtures.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests and plumbing emergencies, ensuring minimal disruption to residents.
Inspect and test plumbing systems for safety and efficiency.
Perform preventative maintenance to avoid plumbing issues and system failures.
Coordinate with external contractors and vendors when specialized plumbing services are required.
Maintain accurate records of work performed and parts used.
Ensure compliance with state and local plumbing codes and health and safety regulations.
Communicate effectively with residents and staff, demonstrating patience, respect, and professionalism.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Be available for the on call and weekend rotation.
