About The Position

Maryland Masonic Homes, a Continuing Care Retirement Community located in Cockeysville, Maryland, has an immediate opening for a Full-time Utility Mechanic/Carpenter. This role involves constructing, installing, and repairing structures and fixtures, responding to maintenance requests, performing routine inspections and preventive maintenance, and coordinating with other maintenance staff. The position requires adherence to building codes and safety regulations, maintaining inventory, and assisting in emergency repairs. The job also includes keeping work areas clean, maintaining tools and equipment, and participating in an on-call and weekend rotation.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum 3 years of professional carpentry experience.
Strong knowledge of carpentry techniques, tools, and safety practices.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical documents.
Excellent problem-solving and time management skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a focus on customer service.
Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 50 lbs), stand for extended periods, and work in various indoor/outdoor conditions.
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
Must be able to lift, push, pull and move equipment, supplies, etc., in excess of 50 pounds.
Must be able to work outside during inclement weather.
Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.
Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.

Nice To Haves

Vocational training or apprenticeship in carpentry preferred.
Experience in a healthcare or senior living environment is a plus.

Responsibilities

Construct, install, and repair structures and fixtures such as doors, windows, cabinets, shelves, and furniture.
Respond to maintenance service requests from staff and residents in a timely and respectful manner.
Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on wooden elements throughout the facility.
Ensure all work is performed in compliance with applicable building codes, safety regulations, and facility standards.
Coordinate with other maintenance staff (electrical, plumbing, HVAC) to complete larger repair and renovation projects.
Maintain inventory of carpentry supplies and order materials as needed.
Assist in emergency repairs and after-hours calls if required.
Keep work areas clean and organized and maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
Be available for the on call and weekend rotation.
Performs other duties as assigned.
