About The Position

Maryland Masonic Homes, a Continuing Care Retirement Community in Cockeysville, Maryland, has an immediate opening for a Full-time Utility Mechanic/Electrician. This role involves installing, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems, performing routine maintenance, responding to service requests, maintaining lighting, collaborating on projects, ensuring safety compliance, record-keeping, and assisting with energy-efficient upgrades. The position requires availability for on-call and weekend rotations and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training preferred.
  • Valid state electrician license (Journeyman or Master Electrician depending on state requirements).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a residential or commercial electrician.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and regulatory standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and electrical codes.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, especially when working around seniors.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various environments (indoors, outdoors, tight spaces).
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and move equipment, supplies, etc., in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Communicates with other departments.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a healthcare or retirement facility.
  • Familiarity with emergency power systems and fire alarm systems.

Responsibilities

  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, wiring, fixtures, and equipment in accordance with local and national codes.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections to ensure the safety and efficiency of all electrical systems.
  • Respond to service requests from residents and staff in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Maintain lighting systems both interior and exterior.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance personnel on facility-wide projects.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, NEC, and other safety regulations.
  • Keep accurate records of work performed and materials used.
  • Assist in the planning and installation of energy-efficient upgrades.
  • Be available for the on call and weekend rotation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
